Casual Chic…

Fashion Rehab, Personal Style
Happy Thursday my Trendy Friends!

The week has literally flown by and I can’t believe the weekend is already here! YIPEE! I’m already thinking of my weekend style, and I’m not talking sweatshirts and tracksuits, NO SIR!…I’m talking about simple casual style that’s effortlessly chic at the same time.

I’m always stumped about what to wear almost every morning and sometimes it can get overwhelming with all the endless fashion options the world has to offer. But, I always find a way of getting myself out of the rut. My Sartorial solution: Stick to Simplicity. Though I love layering and heavy accessorizing as much as the next girl, lately I’ve come to appreciate the chic factor of unfussy yet polished outfits. The best part about this straightforward look is how easy it is to achieve!
There are a few secrets to looking great every day, while also building a cohesive and functional wardrobe that will stand the test of time (and trends). Here are a few rules that will make sure you always look chic.
Dress in Three Colors at a Time
The idea is—even if you’re mixing textures, patterns, or prints—as long you keep everything to no more than three colors, the other mixing will look intentional . Not only does this tip help make you look effortlessly chic, it also helps narrow down your options when you’re picking out outfits in a rush.
However, white doesn’t necessarily have to count as one of your colors. So, if you’re wearing black pants, a red blazer, and a white shirt you could potentially add one more color without ruining the overall look. Also, busy prints (with more than three colors) only count as one color. Just keep the rest of your outfit super simple and only incorporate colors that are in the print.
Splurge on the classics
Invest in timeless pieces, not trendy items. This rule becomes really hard especially if you’re like me, who LOVES to shop. You know, you go in to a store to buy “just one dress”—and the next thing you know, you’ve purchased a pile of clothes that will withstand exactly one season’s worth of trends. (I know, “But they were having a huge sale!”). Trendy items can be purchased for less than your wardrobe staples – you know you’ll be tossing them once they’ve hit the ‘so last season list.’ Instead, why not stack up on quality pieces like a classic leather jacket, a nice pair of jeans or a black sheath dress as they are building blocks to your wardrobe.
Mix and match
For a cohesive causal chic look avoid wearing any one style head-to-toe. The key is to mix and match different fabrics and styles. Throw on a tailored jacket with a pair of jeans and heels. Or wear a ruffled blouse with your favorite khakis and flats.
Don’t forget about comfort
Casual chic isn’t just a fashion style, it’s a lifestyle. The point behind this style is to be comfortable, to show you don’t have to be ‘done up’ and ‘designered-out’ to look stylish. So make sure that in the effort to look effortless you don’t forget to be comfortable. Flats can be your best friend after a day at the office turned night out on the town. A fuller skirt will be easier to hurry to an errand in than a pencil skirt.
Show off a little personality; Think Rihanna!
Every season has its fashion ‘it list’ – whether it’s skinny jeans, menswear or animal prints. Make sure you don’t neglect your personal style in trying to follow the latest trends. Every person voted well-dressed most likely won by making a statement with his or her clothing. Find what looks great on you and wear it regardless if it’s out or in.
Accessorize simply
The key to look like you didn’t try to hard is to not try too hard. Stick to a statement necklace, dangling earrings or a cocktail ring – just don’t walk out the house wearing your whole jewelry collection. Or perhaps go with the smartest accessory of all time – sunglasses.
