How’s Valentines week going for you!Well I hope its all unicorns and rainbows for all the love birds out there lol. Anyhu…however you plan to spend your valentine weekend stay trendy and chic.
Back to today’s post; we have all spotted this trend on our streets recently and its steadily on the rise with a myriad of styles emerging as time goes by. I have been caught up in this wave and the hardest part about it is not in styling my destroyed denim but explaining to my parents why I spend money on a pair of ‘worn out’ jeans (trust me its never easy),which they do not understand! This 90’s revival trend may ooze a bit of a rebellious feel to it, but if worn correctly it can be edgy, sophisticated and classy too which will definitely make you stand out. So here’s a cheat sheet on how to pull off the ripped denim look…
The coolest thing about destroyed denim is the fact that you can be your own designer. You only need a pair of scissors, crazy cutting skills(much like the jilted girlfriend kind of skill)and a good pair of jeans and you will be well on your way to owning your very own pair of ripped pants. Ta-da!
Extent of the rip:
Its definitely a matter of choice here. You could go all the way and rock the super-torn denim look or go for more subtle shreds. If you are just starting off you could go for a subtle rip, something that doesn’t show too much skin then maybe work your way up to more edgier and extreme cuts.
You are free to experiment with a look that is the ultimate expression of your style. If you’re going for a men’s inspired look, you could pair your cuffed ripped boyfriend jeans with a pair of brogues or flats, a white tee, button down shirt or a statement sweatshirts, for a more sophisticated dressy look a pair of heels is definitely the best option, pairing up your skinny ripped jeans/ boyfriend jeans with cropped tops, colorful sheer blouses, button down shirts layered with a fitted blazers or denim jackets.
The key here is to keep it simple or you risk looking shabby or worse still homeless!-yeah that could happen. Its all about balance, avoid cluttering your silhouette with a tonne of accessories. Remember the denim is the focal point of your look. A nice pair of heels, a fedora or a sun hat, bracelets/bangles, a watch, pointy flats, earrings…this are just a few of the basic accessories that are definitely sure to work.
My look was pretty much simple, a cute orange strappy top paired with some extra extra subtle pair of ripped jeans and a pair of heel with a spike detailed. Accessories: a pair of sunglasses, a coctail ring, studs and a pendant chain.
